Normally, when a program loses a long time director, the program takes a hit in terms of performance. This was not the case with the Englewood High School marching band. On October 29, the EHS band placed third in the 2A state competition.

“I was absolutely thrilled with the performance and the entire season. Bands very typically take a dip in their scores and placement during a transition year, and the EHS Pirate Band did not,” Band Director Phil Emery said.

Emery made a quick transition as the new band director. He replaced the retired Del Brickley, who was director for 24 years.

“I absolutely love Englewood High School and all the traditions associated with the band. It’s my honor to be the band director,” Emery said.

The band and Emery hope to continue to build on the program’s success.

“Our goals are to produce quality music in a comprehensive program that excels in all areas,” Emery said.
